Description
An antique spring-shaft blackjack featuring a weighted globular metal head and a flexible coiled steel spring shaft. The grip is composed of a turned wooden handle with a tapered profile. The handle shows remnants of a black painted finish over a gold-colored primer. This style of impact tool was a common self-defense and law enforcement implement during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No manufacturer marks, patent dates, or stamps are discernible on any part of the item.
