Lot 366:
Description
A mid-20th-century Thai Dha, also known as a Daab, featuring a carved wood hilt and matching scabbard. The single-edged steel blade has a slight upward curve towards the point. The blade is stamped with decorative maker marks consisting of three sets of three stacked wavy lines followed by a horizontal row of five similar wavy characters, typical of mid-century Thai blades. The hilt is constructed of wood intricately carved with high-relief floral and foliate motifs common to Thai decorative arts, finished with a brass ferrule and an S-shaped white metal crossguard. The handle terminates in a stylized flower pommel. The wooden scabbard matches the hilt in decoration and is fitted with three brass bands and a yellow-toned braided fiber carrying cord.
