Description
A two-toned stoneware whiskey-style jug featuring a tall cylindrical body, sloped shoulder, and a narrow neck with a single strap handle. The top portion, comprising the shoulder and neck, is finished with a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze, while the main body features a light-colored Bristol-style glaze. The jug displays a cobalt blue stenciled mark on the upper body consisting of a four-leaf clover design with the numeral 5 positioned in the center. This specific cloverleaf or Blue Ribbon mark was a trademark used by the Buckeye Pottery Company of Macomb, Illinois. The surface shows characteristic manufacturing traits including minor pitting, dark kiln spots, and glaze skips.
