Description
This two-piece set of antique utilitarian kitchenware includes a footed colander and a large oval platter. Each piece is manufactured from stamped metal, likely steel or iron, coated in a vitreous enamel finish commonly known as graniteware. The finish features a distinctive gray and white mottled or speckled pattern throughout. The colander is designed with two integrated D-shaped handles and a circular pedestal foot. The platter is of a simple oval form with a shallow well and a broad rim. This style of enamelware was a staple in American households during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No manufacturer marks or backstamps are visible on either item.
