Description
This set of four antique American side chairs is executed in the arrow-back Windsor style, dating to the mid-19th century. The matched set features solid wood construction with shaped plank seats, turned and splayed legs, and a box stretcher arrangement for stability. The chair backs are composed of four vertical spindles and wide, horizontal crest rails mortised into the outer stiles. Each crest rail displays hand-painted and stenciled floral and foliate motifs in green, red, and ocher against a dark-painted ground. Traces of original dark finish are visible across the frames. No maker marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the surfaces.
