Description
This set of eight porringers is crafted from cast pewter by Stede, an American manufacturer specializing in Colonial Revival style metalware. The collection consists of two large porringers and five miniature porringers, all featuring decorative pierced and scrolling openwork handles. Also included is one medium-sized porringer featuring a distinct triple-lobed pierced handle design. Each vessel features a turned or polished interior finish. Every item in the set is marked on the underside with the stamped Stede maker mark, which depicts a left-facing horse head profile in a square above the name STEDE in a rectangular box. These pieces are characteristic of mid-20th-century American decorative arts that adapted traditional early American forms for contemporary use.
