Description
This service for twelve set of knives was produced by Landers, Frary and Clark. The knives feature silver-plated blades paired with handles crafted from celluloid, frequently referred to as French ivory, intended to simulate the appearance of bone. The handles are characterized by a smooth, rounded form and a cream-colored finish. The set is housed in its original rectangular fitted presentation case, which features a brown textured exterior and two brass-toned hook latches. The interior lid is lined with pleated purple satin and bears a central oval mark stamped in gold that reads: LANDERS, FRARY & CLARK / MANUFACTURERS / OF / FINE CUTLERY / & PLATED WARE / 53 CHAMBERS ST. NEW YORK. The base of the interior is lined with purple velvet and contoured to hold the twelve knives. Landers, Frary and Clark was a prominent manufacturer based in New Britain, Connecticut, with the address on the mark signifying their New York City showroom location.
