The Historic 1840 Tucker House Bed and Breakfast Auction: A Distinguished Offering of Primitives & Antiques
Lot 458:
Description
This lot features two antique oval-framed portraits dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The larger portrait is a solar enlargement or crayon portrait with hand-colored details, depicting a woman in formal late Victorian or Edwardian attire with a high-necked, fringed bodice. It is housed in a simple gilt wood frame. The second, smaller photograph appears to be a silver gelatin or albumen print of a young man in a high-collared suit. It is set within an ornate oval frame, possibly quarter-sawn oak, featuring a beaded inner liner and a decorative metal-studded outer border. The reverse of the smaller frame has a faint handwritten pencil inscription that appears to read Robert Potter III.
