The Historic 1840 Tucker House Bed and Breakfast Auction: A Distinguished Offering of Primitives & Antiques
Lot 436:
Description
This trumpet-shaped vase is constructed of silver-plated base metal and features an ornate botanical design. The tall, tapered body is decorated in high relief with a continuous grapevine motif including broad leaves and fruit clusters. The flared rim is serrated and molded to follow the contours of the grape leaves. The vase stands on a circular pedestal base with a matching grapevine border. The base is internally weighted. The form and decorative pattern are consistent with the grapevine designs produced by manufacturers such as the Homan Manufacturing Company in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While a small label is present on the underside, the text is illegible, and the piece is attributed to Homan based on visual consensus of the pattern and form.
