Description
This American folk art hooked rug is constructed with yarn, likely wool, looped through a coarse woven backing such as burlap or canvas. The design features a central rectangular red reserve containing a large, stylized multi-petaled floral motif. This central field is framed by a wide border with a scrolling foliate and vine pattern in shades of sage green and cream on a light beige ground. The entire piece is finished with a red yarn binding. On the reverse, a handwritten letter A is visible in the upper left corner.
