The Historic 1840 Tucker House Bed and Breakfast Auction: A Distinguished Offering of Primitives & Antiques
Lot 340:
Description
An American pewter footed bowl manufactured by the firm Flagg and Homan in Cincinnati, Ohio. The bowl features a utilitarian form with a wide, flared rim and a circular, stepped pedestal base. The underside of the base is struck with an oval maker mark containing the text FLAGG and HOMAN. Below the oval mark, the words PEWTER and the number 13 are stamped. The construction of the piece is cast and lathe-turned, which is evidenced by the concentric circular turning marks visible on the underside of the pedestal. Flagg and Homan were active producers of pewter in the mid-19th century, approximately between 1847 and 1854.
