Description
This hand-colored lithograph by N. Currier, published in 1848, is titled THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES. The composition features a large central portrait of Zachary Taylor in military uniform, encircled by a laurel wreath and labeled ZACHARY TAYLOR, THE People’s choice for 12th President. Surrounding the central image are eleven oval portraits of the previous American presidents from George Washington to James K. Polk. The portraits are set against a decorative background of draped American flags and stars. At the bottom of the sheet, the publication information reads LITH. & PUB. BY N. CURRIER, 152 NASSAU ST. COR. OF SPRUCE, NEW YORK, along with a copyright statement dated 1848. The print is mounted in a wide wood frame with a dark stained finish and mitered corners.
