Description
An American utilitarian stoneware crock or butter churn, likely dating to the mid-to-late 19th century. The vessel is of tall cylindrical form featuring a heavy, reinforced rolled rim and two opposing, applied lug handles. It is finished with a dark, chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze over the entire interior and exterior surfaces. The shoulder is marked with an impressed numeral 3, signifying a three-gallon capacity. The underside of the base features handwritten characters 5/10 in an orange-colored pigment. Capacity: 3 Gallons.
