Description
This two-tone stoneware advertising jug was produced for Rosenbaum Bros., a wine and liquor merchant formerly located at 610 W. Market Street in Louisville, Kentucky. The vessel features a cylindrical body with a sloped shoulder, a narrow neck, and a single applied loop handle. The upper section, encompassing the shoulder and handle, is finished in a glossy dark brown slip glaze. The lower portion of the body is finished in a cream-colored salt glaze that exhibits prominent fine crazing. The front of the jug features a black transfer-printed oval advertising mark that reads: ROSENBAUM BROS. WINES & LIQUORS 610 W. MARKET STREET, LOUISVILLE, KY. The unglazed base shows concentric wire-cut marks from when the piece was removed from the potter’s wheel.
