Description

This pair of late 19th-century pre-Prohibition whiskey bottles was produced for Paul Jones and Company of Louisville, Kentucky. The bottles are constructed from mold-blown dark amber glass, commonly known as black glass due to its dense opacity. Each vessel features a shoulder-applied circular glass seal and an applied tool-finished lip. The bases are smooth with a centered circular indentation typical of the 1870s to 1880s period. The applied seal on the first bottle is embossed with the text PAUL JONES WHISKEY LOUISVILLE, KY. The applied seal on the second bottle is embossed with the text PAUL JONES PURE RYE LOUISVILLE, KY. Both items appear to be in as-found or excavated condition.
