Description
This vintage Black Americana doll is a mixed-media piece featuring a composition head on a stuffed cloth body. The head is finished with a glossy black lacquer and features painted facial details including wide-set eyes with white sclera and black pupils and bright red lips. The head is permanently adorned with a red, white, and blue paisley-patterned fabric headscarf, or tignon. The dollís torso and limbs are constructed from dark brown fabric, and the feet are integrated and made from a contrasting pink-colored fabric. The doll wears a gathered skirt that matches the paisley pattern of the headscarf. No maker marks, labels, or tags are visible on the head or body of the doll. This item is characteristic of mid-20th-century American folk-style dolls.
