Description
This mid-19th-century hand-colored lithograph is titled Autumn and was published by the prolific American firm Currier and Ives. The print depicts an allegorical personification of the season, represented by a young woman with dark hair adorned with a crown of purple and green grapes with vine leaves. She wears a pearl necklace and a dark reddish-brown dress, cradling a bountiful harvest of green and purple grapes along with peaches. The work is inscribed at the lower left PUBLISHED BY CURRIER and IVES. and at the lower right 152 NASSAU ST. NEW YORK. Centered at the bottom is the title A U T U M N. positioned above the inventory number 455. The lithograph is housed in a period wooden frame with mitered corners and a simple rectangular profile.
