Description
This 8-day mechanical mantel clock was manufactured by the Waterbury Clock Company and is the Caspian model, as identified by the original paper label on the reverse. The architectural-style case features a high-gloss black finish with incised foliate and scrollwork patterns on the front base. The case is flanked by two columns with a green faux-marble finish and is elevated by four ornate cast metal feet. Decorative cast metal masks in the form of lion heads are mounted to each side. The circular white enameled dial displays black Roman numeral hour markers and an outer minute track, protected by a hinged glass door with a metal frame. A regulation lever for S (Slow) and F (Fast) is located above the twelve o’clock position. The dial is further accented by an ornate gilt-metal bezel and a central decorative ring. The brass movement is stamped with a five-pointed star symbol and reads Waterbury Clock Co, Waterbury, Conn, Patented Nov. The striking mechanism features a hammer and a coiled wire cathedral gong.
