Description

This American vernacular side chair, dating from the early 19th century (circa 1810-1830), is constructed from mixed hardwoods such as maple and birch. The chair features rabbit-ear uprights that secure two shaped horizontal slats positioned above three short, turned spindles. It is built with a thick, contoured solid plank seat and stands on four splayed legs with bamboo-style turnings joined by a matching box stretcher. The construction utilizes traditional spindle-and-socket joinery, with the legs and back posts mortised directly into the seat. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the item.
