Description
This lot consists of two antique wooden dairy implements used for molding and marking butter. The first item is a rectangular box-type butter press of hardwood construction. It features a removable lid and a central wooden plunger used to compress butter against a carved base plate. The base plate contains two hand-carved intaglio designs: one depicting a central thistle-like plant with serrated foliate borders, and the second showing a tiered fan or crown motif. The box is assembled with slotted screws and primitive nails. The second item is a round individual butter stamp of turned wood with a central plunger. The stamping surface is carved with a circular border enclosing a central cross, with heart or clover motifs in each of the four quadrants.
