Description
A large ceramic piggy bank constructed of glazed red earthenware. The piece features a cream-colored base glaze with an overall brown sponge-decorated or spatterware pattern under a high-gloss finish. The bank is modeled in a stylized porcine form with a rounded body, defined snout, ears, and four short, stout legs. A rectangular coin slot is located on the dorsal surface. The soles of the feet are unglazed, revealing the reddish-brown clay body, and each foot contains a circular vent hole from the firing process. A central circular opening on the underside is fitted with a translucent plastic stopper. The stopper is embossed with Niagara, 223, and Erie PA. No maker marks or model numbers are present on the ceramic body.
