Description
This lot features two late 19th-century American stoneware storage jars of varying sizes and glazes. The taller vessel is a salt-glazed storage jar with a cylindrical form, a slightly flared rounded rim, and a body that tapers toward the base. The exterior displays a distinct orange peel texture with mottled greenish-gray coloration and brownish-tan kiln flashing. The interior is coated in a dark brown slip glaze. The second, shorter vessel is a preserve jar with a wide mouth, a prominent rounded shoulder, and a slightly flared rim. This jar is finished in a uniform dark chocolate-brown Albany-type slip glaze with a semi-glossy sheen. Both jars are undecorated and do not bear any visible maker’s marks, stamps, or capacity numbers.
