Description

This lot consists of two non-matching but complementary American country side chairs featuring vernacular Windsor-style construction, likely dating to the mid-to-late 19th century. One chair is an arrow-back Windsor design, distinguished by five flattened spindles that taper toward the top. The second chair is a traditional spindle-back design with five simple turned spindles. Both chairs are constructed with rectangular crest rails featuring slightly rounded ears and thick, saddle-contoured plank seats. The splayed legs are secured with through-tenon joinery and braced by H-pattern stretchers. Material construction typically includes hardwoods such as maple or birch for the structural members and softwoods such as pine or poplar for the seats. No maker marks, factory stamps, or inscriptions are visible on the surfaces.
